De-Fund Flawed Missile Defense System
The Bush administration’s missile defense system is fatally flawed, untested, and would likely be ineffective against a real attack. Your senators will soon vote on an amendment to reduce funding for this unproven program. Please write your senators and tell them to support Senator Carl Levin's amendment that would cut tens of millions of dollars from the ineffective long-range anti-missile system, on which tens of billions of dollars has already been wasted.
Subject: De-Fund Flawed Missile Defense System
Dear Senator.
As the Senate considers the Defense Authorization bill, please vote in favor of Senator Carl Levin's amendment that will cut funding for the inherently ineffective ground-based missile defense system.
The United States has already deployed or paid for 30-40 ground-based missile interceptors. These interceptors have never been flown in a successful intercept test and the last three tests failed. Moreover, even if these interceptors work in tightly scripted tests, scientific studies have demonstrated that they would be inherently vulnerable to simple countermeasures, such as decoy balloons. The U.S. intelligence community has indicated that these countermeasures would be available to any country capable of launching a long-range missile with a nuclear warhead. There are higher priorities for our precious security dollars than spending them on long-range missile defenses that are unlikely to work. Please support the Levin amendment to cut funding for missile defense.
