We need your support to pull out all the stops to make significant headway with the new and improved Access to Medical Treatment. This bill was introduced last year in the House by Representatives Burton and DeFazio. We're pleased to announce that we met last week with Sen. Harkin's office and he is about to introduce Access to Medical Treatment Act into the Senate.

The purpose of Access to Medical Treatment Act (AMTA) legislation is to amend the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act to allow legally authorized health care practitioners access to any method of medical treatment approved or non-approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that is proven to be safe and effective. It will also grant access to promising, beneficial allopathic and complementary and alternative medical (CAM) treatments that are not now accessible because of out of date FDA policies or for which FDA approval has not been sought or has not yet been granted.

This bill would also help fix the existing conflict between National Institute of Health (NIH) and FDA on CAM therapies. Many involve herbal/botanicals that are non-patentable and may never be FDA approved (does not apply to dietary supplements).

AMTA not only expand patients' options, it helps ensure patients safety. It returns the decision-making authority to the patient, and reasserts the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship.
As you know, AAHF has been leading the charge on AMTA and have been working closely with members of Congress to craft the most effective bill with the best chance for passage. We have nine months left to work the 109th Congress to get this bill passed.

Already over 25,000 letters have been sent to House members but we need to be as passionate and vocal as possible to overcome the bias towards health freedom issues.
Immediate and significant funds are imperative to the success of this effort. We need to raise $60,000 for the following:

Educate Congress and lobby for passage of this bill
Build an aggressive public relations and media campaign
Increase grassroots support
Engage other organizations in the effort

Additionally, we will be filming a public service announcement in May to raise awareness.
Doctors cannot afford to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars continuing to defend themselves when they come under fire by the FDA or the state medical board for using therapies that this bill would cover. Patients cannot afford to continue to travel outside of the country for life-saving therapies. Can you afford to not help us with this critical issue?

Please make a donation to support our efforts.

The Access to Medical Treatment Act directly effects you, but won't go anywhere without your immediate support.

This is a health freedom issue that is here, in the United State, NOW. It affects every American today who wants access to life-enhancing and life-saving treatments without cost and hassle of traveling outside of the country.

If you haven't already contacted your House representative, please click here. Help spread the word - encourage your friends and contacts to take action. Make a donation. Join AAHF.

We appreciate your support and look forward to working on your behalf.
